Measure the width and height of the item you want to frame in millimetres. If you are using a mount, the aperture should usually be slightly smaller than the artwork so it holds the picture securely. For a frame without a mount, use the exact size of the picture, print, or poster. A more in depth guide is available here.
A mount is optional, but it gives the picture a more professional, gallery-style finish and helps stop the image from touching the glazing. Mounts are especially useful for photos, certificates, prints, and artwork.

The image size is the size of your photo, print, or artwork. The mount size includes the border around the image. The frame size is the size needed to hold the mount or picture. If you are unsure, start by measuring the artwork itself and then decide whether you want a mount around it.
Yes. Our made-to-measure picture frame builder is designed for pictures and artwork that do not fit standard frame sizes. You can enter the exact size you need and choose from a range of frame styles and mount options.
Your measurements should be as accurate as possible, ideally in millimetres. Measure the width and height carefully and double-check before ordering. For best results, use a metal ruler or tape measure and measure the actual picture, print, or artwork rather than guessing from the frame size.
For photographs, a simple black, white, oak, walnut, or neutral frame usually works well. A mount can make the photo look more professional and helps draw attention to the image. For family photos or gifts, choose a frame colour that suits the room where it will be displayed.
Posters and prints often look best in simple frames that do not overpower the design. Black, white, natural wood, and slim modern frames are popular choices. For larger posters, a lightweight frame with clear acrylic or perspex glazing can be a practical option.
Choose a frame colour that suits both the picture and the room. Black frames create contrast and work well with modern prints. White frames give a clean, fresh look. Oak and walnut frames add warmth and suit traditional or natural interiors. Metallic finishes can work well for contemporary artwork.
Wooden and wood-effect frames are popular because they give a warm, high-quality finish and suit many styles of décor. Plastic, metal, and recycled-material frames can also be a good choice depending on the look, weight, budget, and use. The best frame is the one that suits your picture and where it will be displayed.
Modern interiors often suit slim black, white, oak, walnut, or metallic frames. Simple profiles usually work best because they keep the focus on the picture. For a clean gallery-style look, pair the frame with a white or off-white mount.
For a gift, choose a frame that is easy to match with most homes. Black, white, oak, and walnut frames are safe, popular choices. If the picture is a photograph or certificate, adding a mount can make the gift feel more personal and professionally finished.
